The Museum of the Albemarle will host our monthly 2nd History for Lunch on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at 12 p.m.  Charles R. Knight, Author and Curator of Military History at the North Carolina Museum of History, focuses on Robert E. Lee in his recent book. The book looks at what the general was doing when he was out of History’s “public” eye by focusing on where he was, who he was with, and what he was doing day by day that offers an entirely different appreciation for Lee. Readers will learn of Lee’s struggles, both personal and professional, and discover many things about him for the first time using personal correspondence and papers from his family, his staff, his lieutenants, and the men of his army. Based on hundreds of first-person accounts, Arlington to Appomattox offers a unique and well-rounded portrait of who Lee really was.

Charles Knight is native of Richmond, VA, where he developed a love of history at an early age. He has worked at museums and historic sites for more than 20 years and has given historical presentations to audiences across the country. He is the author of “Valley Thunder: The Battle of New Market and the Opening of the Shenandoah Valley Campaign, May 1864” (2010), and “From Arlington to Appomattox: Robert E. Lee’s Civil War, Day by Day, 1861-1865 (Nov. 2020)”.

The Museum will offer the History for Lunch in-person and through Zoom. Register in advance through the Museum’s Facebook page or website to receive link to attend lecture virtually.

The virtual program is supported by Southern Bank and Biggs Cadillac Buick GMC of Elizabeth City.
