The Currituck Department of Travel & Tourism recently attended the Southeast Tourism Society (STS) Connections Conference in Concord, NC, September 6-9, 2022.  The STS member organization is comprised of fourteen regions: Alabama, Arkansas, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.  Its members include Attractions, Destination Marketing Organizations/Convention and Visitors Bureaus, Educational Institutions, National Heritage Areas, Hotel/Lodging Properties, State Tourism Offices, State Tourism Associations, Travel and Tourism Service Providers for Consumers (B2C), and Industry-Related Service Providers (B2B).

During the conference, Alex Perry, Marketing Communications Director for the department, received his Travel Marketing Professional certification, a 3-year program offered through STS.  In addition, Currituck was honored to receive the Shining Example Best Marketing Award for destination marketing organizations with budgets over $500,000 for its “Simply Corolla, NC - Find Yourself Here” campaign. Currituck was also honored, along with 5 other counties (Camden, Chowan, Dare, Pasquotank, Perquimans), to receive the Shining Example Best Partnership Award for its African American Experience of Northeastern North Carolina heritage trail (www.ncblackheritagetour.com).  Competition for these coveted awards is fierce, and Currituck Travel & Tourism was thrilled to be chosen from among the many entries of the STS heavy hitters. Currituck County may be small, but its talented team of tourism professionals and business partners makes us mighty!
