Animal Lovers Assistance League gives gratitude to local supporters

It is with sincere gratitude that the Animal lovers Assistance League wants to thank the many people in Currituck who have stepped forward in recent months to help animals in need.  When we have received animals from pet owners who are experiencing life-threatening health issues and are having to relinquish their beloved pets because they are having to move to other states to live with relatives who can’t have pets, our citizens have opened their homes and hearts to these animals.  When the family of a man in the military could not provide adequate care for their dogs when he was away on deployment, several people in Currituck with large fenced yards adopted the dogs at our adopt-a-thon at Ole Fox.   Two parrots are frequently offering their new owners their opinions on the world situation!  English bull dog “Bubba” now helps get the two children in his new family out of bed in the morning.  The kids bound out of bed eagerly so that they can go play with Bubba! One adopter recently lost her sister, who lived next door.  Her newly adopted dog has helped her deal with her loss.  Other animals are bringing great joy to their new owners, including a dog who has helped inspire her new owner to get her strength back after cancer surgery.   When ALAL was called by a family to immediately come rescue a little dog before a member of the family who does not like dogs got home and was going to take the dog and throw her out along the highway, we were there.  ALAL took care of the little dog’s vet services and got her spayed.  She is the center of her new owner’s attention and a source of great joy as she runs around her new big fenced yard and shares her new owner’s house.

We are especially grateful to Moyock United Methodist Church for their huge donation of pet supplies and funds to assist ALAL not only with helping needy people provide for their animals but also with helping those in our county who need help so that they can keep their pets.  For example, ALAL will be transporting to the veterinarian the dogs of a wheelchair bound, very limited income senior citizen. Thanks to Moyock UMC’s donation, ALAL will be able to pay for the dogs’ vaccinations, etc., and return them to the home where they are greatly loved and provide a lot of company for their owner.  In addition to many of the donated items going to help animals in need in the community, some of the donated items will be used in our humane education “How to Be Kind to Animals” programs, such as for the YMCA campers, which help teach the younger generation important lessons about caring for others.

Since the Animal Lovers Assistance League, Inc., is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, it is the dedicated efforts of many people along with the support of numerous businesses, such as long-time supporters P. J.’s Elite Thrift Store, Scot Stor, Grandy Farm Market, Towne Bank, Peck Basket, PetWay,  Pasquotank Animal Hospital, Taylor’s Total Look, Mahanes Dental Group, The Shopper,  and numerous other businesses, plus veterinarian care funds established by John and Kit Caldwell and others, that make a lot of our services possible.  When we have a partnership of the animal loving people of Currituck, businesses, donors, and volunteers,  both the animals and their people benefit.   Foster families and donations are always needed.  We’re in search of a location for a no-kill animal sanctuary.  If we can be of help, please call: 252-457-0011; e-mail – currituckanimallovers@gmail.com; or contact ALAL, PO Box 61, Maple, NC 27956.
