VOTER REGISTRATION

To be eligible to vote you must:

• be a resident of North Carolina and Currituck County for the 30 days prior to an election;
• be at least 18 years of age by the next general election;
• not be registered to vote in any other county or state;
• if convicted of a felony, have had your citizenship rights restored.

The Board of Election office is located at the Currituck Government Center Complex, 2811  Caratoke Hwy. in Currituck. Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (252) 232-2525.

Deadlines To Register To Vote 

The deadline to register to vote in North Carolina and Currituck County is 25 days before the day of the election. Forms Forms must be received in the Elections office or postmarked by the deadline to be accepted. Agency and North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicle registration transactions that are completed by the deadline are also valid.

Each voter will be sent a voter card showing their assigned precinct.

Where To Register To Vote In Currituck County

Forms may be obtained at these locations, completed, and mailed to the Board of Elections office.

You may register at the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles office when conducting official DMV business, or at any state agency when applying for or receiving benefits.

Currituck County has a permanent and continuous registration. If you move, change your name, or desire to change your party affiliation, you must make these changes no later than 25 days before an election. If you move to another county in North Carolina, you must register in that county.

Currituck County Water

Water sources available to Currituck mainland residents are private wells and the Currituck County Water System. The Mainland Water System is self-supporting with main water lines now complete to Point Harbor. As of March 2016, the mainland water system services 5,724 active accounts. The Southern Outer Banks Water System (SOBWS) serves the potable water needs of several communities on the Currituck Outer Banks. These communities include: The Villages at Ocean Hill, Ocean Hill Section 1, Corolla Village area, Whalehead Beach, Ocean Sands Water/Sewer District, Ocean Sands Sections A, B and C, and Spindrift. The Currituck Water Departments employs 18 people including: four (4) Plant/Production employees, five (5) Distribution employees, four (4) Wastewater employees and four (4) administrative employees.

 

RECYCLING

The Currituck County Landfill is located at 216 Airport Rd. in Barco. Accepted materials include commercial, industrial, and household waste from Currituck County only. Open Monday-Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Closed Sundays and holidays. 453-4368

Manned Convenience Centers Hours of Operation: Monday-Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Sunday, 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Closed on New Year’s Day (close at 5:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve), Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day (close at 5:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve).
