Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast (GSCCC) will be joining Girl Scouts throughout the nation for the second annual Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend September 12- 13, 2020. GSCCC will be offering a virtual Zoom event on September 12 starting at 10:00 am where girls will virtually meet a Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation ranger and get up close with Virginia wildlife as they discuss conservation and doing your part.

Families who register for this virtual event will also receive a self-guided packet from Virginia State Parks with a free parking pass included to use at any state park from September 11 - 13.  Girls registered will also receive the 2020 Girl Scouts Love State Parks Patch that will be mailed after the event.

The legacy of Girl Scouts and the outdoors is profound. Studies show that 71 percent of girl members ages 8–14 tried their first outdoor activity through the organization, and half would not have had access to outdoor activities and programming if not for Girl Scouts.

Girl Scouts’ cutting-edge environmental conservation; camping; and outdoor science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programming is rooted in a passion for adventure and healthy risk-taking combined with taking action to protect the environment for present and future generations. Girl Scouts wants to get even more girls outside through Girl Scouts Love State Parks!

.In collaboration with the National Association of State Park Directors (NASPD), Girl Scouts will host a variety of events at state parks for girls to explore what the parks have to offer and to participate in select activities, such as working on a badge or project, camping overnight, and much more.

James River State Park in Gladstone, Virginia is one of the parks offering programs to celebrate Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend. Families can visit the park on September 12-13 from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. to get outdoors and learn about park resources. There will be a number of interpretive programs offered. Girl Scouts can begin or finish an outdoor badge. Contact Martin Liebschner at martin.liebschner@dcr.virginia.gov or 434-933-4355 for more information or to schedule special programs.
